Clean Beauty Gift Guide for the 2019 Holidays

This is a title graphic in horizontal Facebook format with the text "Clean Beauty Gift Guide for the 2019 Holidays" on it

Where has 2019 gone?! How is it November already?! I feel like it was just a couple of days ago that I was in Las Vegas over the last weekend of September celebrating a friend’s last few weeks as an unmarried woman, and now all of the sudden it’s November! October disappeared in a blink. But, that’s not all bad, because now that it’s the end of the year…that means it’s the holiday season! ICYMI back in September, I decided to become a Beautycounter Consultant, so this post today is going to be chock-full of suggestions for a clean beauty gift guide for this holiday season.

Why the focus on clean beauty?

Here’s the short version of a long story: I have Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune thyroid disease, which I’ve mentioned in other blog posts. In late 2013, I learned about ways to try to heal my autoimmunity through a real food diet, which led to learning how to make safer choices with beauty and body products, too. I’ve done my best over the past six years (and counting) to continue to make safer choices not only in my food consumption but also in my makeup, body wash, hair products, toothpaste, and so on.

For a few years, I was using another clean beauty brand for my makeup. I liked supporting the company because it was a woman-owned small business, and the products worked well enough. I thought — like so many do — that you can only reach a certain degree of performance with makeup products created with less toxic and harmful ingredients. I purchased almost all of my makeup products from that company for years (and would even still recommend it to those whose budgets can’t allow for the Beautycounter price point), but man, I didn’t know how wrong I was about the performance standards of clean beauty products!

Beautycounter’s makeup is seriously high-performing and long-lasting. I’ve worn it all day running around Las Vegas, I’ve worn it for the great majority of a day as a bridesmaid in a wedding, I’ve worn it for several hours for date night with my husband…you get the idea. It stays on, and it stays on looking good! So, if I choose for myself AND recommend for you high-performing, long-wearing makeup and beauty products that happen to be made with safer ingredients…why wouldn’t I? 🙂

Beautycounter’s 2019 Holiday Sets

In early October, Beautycounter released most of their limited edition Holiday sets for 2019. The last three sets were just released on November 5th! These sets cover a variety of makeup and skin care products, including some products that are only available during this holiday season. They aren’t products regularly available from Beautycounter. They’ve got around 20 Holiday sets, which is bonkers — it’s going to be such a fun clean beauty holiday season!

Some of these Holiday sets have already been selling like hotcakes, and since they’re limited edition, you’ll want to make sure you grab any that you want before the sell out completely. Since it’s still very early in the holiday season, I recommend getting some things to try out for yourself, and then use your observations of how you like the products to inform your gift giving in December! Or, if your birthday is in November or December like mine is, then you can do a little treat yo’self — I’m planning to! 😉

Without further ado, I’d like to share with you the best-selling Holiday sets for your clean beauty gift guide. These are the items that have been most popular in the past month since Holiday was first released, so you really can’t go wrong with these products. While the section immediately following only focuses on a few of the Holiday sets, I’ll list the rest of them at the bottom of the post. Keep reading!

Clean Beauty Gift Guide for the 2019 Holidays

#1: The Jellies

This is a photograph of the Jellies lip glosses from Beautycounter.

Ooooh, boy, the Jellies are popular! People went nuts over these fun, scented lip glosses as soon as they released. If you have fond memories of similarly flavored/scented glosses from your childhood but want a version with much cleaner ingredients, then you’ve got to snag the Jellies! One of the most fun things about these glosses is that they’re ultra shiny, so if you want to turn up the shine on your lips, then these are the perfect choice! The scents include:

  • Raspberry
  • Butterscotch
  • Orange Cream
  • Peppermint
  • Sorbet

This is a photograph of the shades of the Jellies lip glosses from Beautycounter.

These could be a great gift as the full set, of course, but they could also be split up for stocking stuffers!

#2: Mini Lip Gloss Vault

This is a photograph of the Mini Lip Gloss Vault from Beautycounter.

Considering that the Jellies are the #1 best-selling Holiday set, I’m not particularly surprised that the Mini Lip Gloss Vault is the second most popular! This collection of glosses comes with 10 different shades, nine of which are brand new to Beautycounter’s inventory. Now, note that these aren’t full-size lip glosses — hence the “mini” in the product name — but with 10 of them, they’ll definitely last you a while to try out all of the different colors! They’re not sticky, they actually moisturize your lips, and they have a variety of finishes: shimmery, intense, and sheer. Here are the shades and a description of their colors (flattering for all skin tones!):

  • Amber Shimmer: warm amber shimmer
  • Rosewater Shimmer: soft pink shimmer
  • Hydrangea: warm pink
  • Clove: warm beige
  • Mulberry: deep plum
  • Camellia: cool pink
  • Dusty Rose: deep mauve
  • Brûlée: khaki beige shimmer
  • Quartz Shimmer: clear shimmer
  • Cranberry Shimmer: warm plum shimmer

This is another set that definitely makes sense as the whole collection but that could also be broken up for stocking stuffers, Secret Santa gifts, or just gifts to close friends to let them know you value their friendship!

#3: Rosewood Lip Trio

This is a photograph of the Rosewood Lip Trio from Beautycounter.

If you can believe it…another of the top selling Holiday sets is a lip color set! Rosewood is a popular shade that is literally flattering for all skin tones, which is why this set is perfect for lovers of the Rosewood shade: You get it in lip gloss, Sheer Lipstick (gold tube), and Color Intense Lipstick (dark blue tube)! The lip gloss, of course, provides a moisturizing, sheer tint with a high-impact shine, while the Sheer Lipstick gives you a polished finish of the sheer color. The Color Intense Lipstick, as you might imagine, is more intense in color and is longer-lasting. You can wear them individually or layer them for more impact!

#4: Pout Perfecter Lip Care Set

This is a photograph of the Pout Perfecter Lip Care Set from Beautycounter.

This is actually the only set from this clean beauty gift guide that I have for myself so far! I recently posted about it on my Instagram account. 🙂 This lip care set is perfect for those of us who suffer from chapped lips in the colder months. It includes three products: Lip Polish, Better Balm, and Crystal Lip Gloss. The Lip Polish is made with organic sugar and conditioning oils so that it gently exfoliates your lips (it’s worked like a charm for me!). The Better Balm, as you might suspect, is a conditioning product that helps relieve chapped lips and reduce the appearance of fine lines. Finally, you can top it all off with the lip gloss, which is lightly scented with natural vanilla and provides a beautiful, glossy shine.

#5: Starlight Eyeshadow Palette

This is a photograph of the Starlight Eyeshadow Palette from Beautycounter.

I’ve seen some really beautiful looks with this gorgeous eyeshadow palette! The colors are SO pretty and provide a nice spectrum of shades. If you’ve never used Beautycounter eyeshadows before, then let me give you a heads up that the shades are definitely potent. The first time I used one of the darker shades from my Velvet Eyeshadow Palette in Romantic, I was surprised by how deep the shade went on my eyelid and had to tone it down a bit. So, that’s definitely something to keep in mind when applying, and I’d actually recommend the Eclipse shade — the dark shade at the top of the palette in the photo above — as an eyeliner or for a smoky eye look, but not as an all-over color. They’re a bit hard to see in the photo, so here are names of the shades:

  • Satellite: matte dove grey
  • Lunar: satin pink ivory
  • Constellation: sparkling platinum with blue violet shimmer
  • Aurora: satin soft rose
  • Eclipse: satin deep navy

#6: Hand Cream Trio

This is a photograph of the Hand Cream Trio from Beautycounter.

I’m really surprised that only one skin care/body product made the best sellers list! But, out of all of them, this one isn’t surprising — how many of us suffer from dry, cracked skin on our hands in the winter months?! I know I do, and it’s not fun. These three hand creams will keep your skin nourished with ingredients like shea butter and jojoba oil, and they’re non-greasy, which is so important in lotions, IMO. They come in three limited-edition scents:

  • Fresh Petal
  • Soft Neroli
  • Mandarin Violet

This is another set that makes for great stocking stuffers!

What other clean beauty gifts are in the Holiday collection?

Now that I’ve shared all of the best sellers with you, I want to be sure to list the remaining Holiday sets that are available, because there are some really awesome sets that haven’t been highlighted yet. These include smaller versions of the Counter+ product line, which is ahhhh-mazing and includes products like the super popular Overnight Resurfacing Peel and the Charcoal Facial Mask!

Makeup

  • Fresh Faced Trio
  • Eye Sparklers Palette
  • Better Balm Duo
  • Transforming Duo

Skin Care

  • Counter+ Skin Care Favorites
  • Bright Eyes Treatment Set
  • Glow Getters Trio
  • Special Edition Cleansing Balm
  • No. 3 Balancing Spa Set
  • Glow & Go Mini Oils

Body

  • Beautycounter Travel Companion
  • Lemongrass Body Set
  • Body Butter Trio

Counterman

  • Counterman Carry-On

If you have questions about any of the Holiday sets in this clean beauty gift guide, including ingredients due to intolerances and allergies (for example, a number of body products use sweet almond oil, which won’t work for people with tree nut allergies), then please don’t hesitate to shoot me an email at support@leslieauman.com. I’m happy to help!

Happy holiday season to you, my friend, and I hope that you love these Holiday items as much as me and everyone else!

I can't remember now how I came across this series, but I'm really enjoying it! 🖤 It's fantasy meets realistic fiction with engaging but flawed characters, an incredible alternate world, magic, and most importantly -- a Black female protagonist. 👏🏻
. . . . .
I read them originally in Kindle version, borrowed from my local public library, but I liked them so much that I decided to buy them for myself as an early birthday gift (my birthday is in about a week 😝). There's a third book, A Crown So Cursed, due out in mid-April! 📅

I requested an absentee ballot because COVID is still very much a threat, and I'm an immunocompromised person. I researched candidates, issues, and the school bond issue on this ballot and made my selections. ☑️ Despite 45's fear-mongering about mail-in voting, I trust this election system that's been around for over 150 years. 📬 I'll be tracking my ballot on the Ohio Secretary of State website, and in the meantime, I'm going to make some donations to important campaigns! ✊🏻💵

World War 2 fiction is one of my favorite genres. Some of my most favorite books are in this genre. 💜 It's taken me a bit to feel like I'm really getting into the plot, but last night I finally felt like it was getting really good. I'm roughly halfway through! If you've read this, what did you think? But no spoilers, please! 🙏🏻
It allllllllmost passed me by, but today is my fif It allllllllmost passed me by, but today is my fifth business anniversary! 🥳💖 Or business birthday, whichever. 😂
. . . . .
Exactly five years ago today, I "launched" my business as a virtual assistant and signed my very first client, completely unexpectedly. I had no idea what I was doing, really -- and sometimes I still feel that way. 🙃
. . . . .
These past five years have taught me a LOT. I've tried and failed and tried and failed. I've felt really successful, and I've felt pretty unsuccessful. I've lived "paycheck to paycheck." I've been watching the newest season of @queereye with Husband, and the episode with Rahanna, the entrepreneurial dog groomer, made me feel so seen and comforted as Bobby and Tan talked to Rahanna about how hard the first few years of business are. Because they are. No one is an overnight success. I'm officially five years in, and I'm only just now starting to feel like I'm finally on a path to my business being profitable.
. . . . .
I'm so, SO excited and thankful to celebrate (LOL by working) today knowing I signed my first OBM-level client a few days ago! 🥳 I've also had the opportunity and pleasure of having discovery calls with a couple of other womxn business owners about my OBM services. How fitting that I'm starting off this new chapter of my business with the very recent success of "launching" myself as an OBM! 🙌🏻
. . . . .
Cheers to you if you're still grinding on the roller coaster of entrepreneurship. I'm starting to see that it does all eventually pay off, and it does eventually get easier. 🙏🏻
It's finally here: OBM certification week! Back in It's finally here: OBM certification week! Back in March, I enrolled in the Certified OBM training program, created by @tinaforsyth8 and taught by @sarahnoked. After three months in the training program -- working through all of the modules and watching all of the session videos, attending the biweekly live calls or watching the recordings if I had to miss, watching/reading any supplemental materials that would help for this week, learning from sample projects, and talking with my accountability partner... We're here, at certification week. I'm nervous, but I'm ready to give it my best effort! 💪🏻👊🏻 Good luck to my fellow examinees, also on the path to becoming certified Online Business Managers! 🤗 #CertifiedOBM #OnlineBusinessManager
Yesterday, I shared about the Following Directions Yesterday, I shared about the Following Directions Test for middle school grades that's included in the #Fireworks2020 dollar💲deal event...so today I'll share about the People BINGO resource! 🤩
. . . . .
This is an editable activity that makes for a fun and engaging icebreaker activity on the first day of school -- or on the first day of a new semester with a new class of students. You can customize the BINGO board to have details that best fit your population of students and what you know about them, but there's also a ready-to-print PDF version! ✅
. . . . .
In light of the mandates, I do still think this is an activity best used in the classroom -- I have yet to think of an effective way to adapt it digitally, aside from doing it together as a whole group and asking students to introduce themselves and sharing something on the BINGO board that applies to them. But if you do have to go back in the classroom, I recommend having your students stay 6+ feet apart as recommended, introduce themselves to each other, and exchange a detail on the board that applies to them. They can write their classmates' names in the squares themselves, rather than trading papers to have each other sign.

. . . . .
I created this resource in my first year of teaching (several years ago now!) based on my memory of a similar kind of test given to our class in 4th grade. Back then, the test was part of my teacher's classroom management system, but I created my version to be used at the beginning of the year (or beginning of the semester...or during test prep!).
. . . . .
This resource included two "trick" versions of the test, where there are silly instructions given in numbers 1-10, but the REAL instructions are at the very bottom of the page, for eagle-eyed students. 😉 There's also a legitimate version of it, no tricks. 🤗 And just this week I added a digital version of all three tests, so each one now has a fillable PDF version, and the instructions have been updated to suit a distance learning environment! 🖥️
